Aspire Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Firmware Engineer on behalf of our global leader in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire.

Start: ASAP
Location: Cambridge, CB21
Hybrid: 2 Days Remote / 3 Days Office
Salary: up to £80,000
 
The Senior Firmware Engineer will report to the Head of Electronics and work within the electronics team to develop and test a range of products for a successful and growing company which preserves the original dynamic and start-up atmosphere, and is backed by one of the largest private equity companies in the world. The work is very much “hands on” and will include software development for microcontrollers and other SoC’s managing the entire software life cycle, hardware/software integration and working with other businesses to bring the latest technology.
 
JOB ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead new firmware development projects, including working with internal and external engineers
  • Work with the Head of Electronics to execute and deliver the Innovation Master Plan
  • Contribute heavily to process improvement (e.g. new tools and methodologies)
  • Maintain, expand and document existing firmware (C language)
  • Create new firmware platforms (C / C++) for microcontrollers and other SoCs allowing code reuse across projects. This will include working with embedded OS such as Zephyr
  • Work with third parties to bring new technology to the business portfolio
  • Develop and tune control algorithms
  • Work with hardware engineers to research potential ICs and SoCs for new applications (Eclipse, Git, etc.)”
  • Work with hardware and project engineers to ensure the products operate as intended and comply with the design verification plan
  • Investigate and solve complex functional issues
  • Candidates must be prepared to travel occasionally to China, US and EU

KEY SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Ideally a qualified firmware engineer with at least 7 years’ experience and previous experience in embedded systems (microcontrollers) for high-volume consumer electronics or similar
  • Proven track record of developing complex software in Embedded C to a high standard (bare-metal and RTOS)
  • Must be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of microcontrollers and best practices for embedded software development
  • Strong skills with firmware IDEs/tools (Eclipse, Git, etc.). Previous experience with Cortex-M0 and Cortex-M4 would be highly beneficial
  • Experience of IoT systems/platforms and communications e.g. NB-IoT. Previous experience with Zephyr OS would be highly beneficial
  • Ability to communicate concisely and influence others
  • Ability to plan and make decisions under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
