Hours: Mon to Fri, Full Time
Salary: £50,000

The successful Chief Microbiologist will have the opportunity for professional development.

The Role of the Chief Microbiologist:

  • Design the new facility, lead its commissioning, and define the necessary procedures to ensure its safe and efficient functioning.
  • Testing biocidal formulations to defined and new protocols.
  • The Chief Microbiologist will be leading the team of microbiologists and virologists, setting work schedules, interpreting, and reporting results, and troubleshooting any problems that may arise.
  • Developing new test protocols to support the ongoing development programme.
  • Providing microbiology and/or virology expertise to advise on future technical developments and ongoing improvements in the test capability.

Requirements of the Chief Microbiologist:

  • Experienced, experimental microbiologist or virologist, qualified to PhD level whose current role involves leadership responsibilities and working in an industrial environment e.g. pharma, biocides, FMCG, hospital, healthcare etc.
  • The Chief Microbiologist will have demonstrable leadership experience and skills, be a good problem solver and decision maker, communicate clearly and be a strategic thinker.
  • You will have excellent command of laboratory techniques for handling and working with micro-organisms and/or viruses, and if you are a virologist in cell culturing.
  • Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience of biological testing to European (EN), and/or North American (ASTM, AOAC) standards, and have a record of publications in the open literature and/or patents.
