Aspire Cambridge are currently recruiting for an Applications Engineer on behalf of an award winning company who are listed in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 fastest growing UK tech companies for a second year running. They design, manufacture and support of energy management display and information systems for domestic markets across Europe. Their focus is helping consumers understand and manage their domestic energy (and water) consumption.

Established in 2006 our client is now one of the leading home energy management system companies in the world having sold over 4 million systems. This year they won a Queens Award for Enterprise. With major contracts to supply the UK smart metering programme, multiple connected home contracts and a growing distribution channel the company is continuing to experience substantial growth.Technologies range from ultra-low power IoT to big data cloud services.

Our clients engineering team is a small and agile development team and their engineers work on a wide range of projects, typically following a product from early concept to production either as an individual or as part of a scrum team. The Role:
Our client is growing their technical team and are looking to recruit a strong engineer to spearhead the rollout of their next wave of SMETS products. The successful applicant will work closely, on-site as well as at our clients offices, with customers and partners to ensure that their devices work seamlessly in the Smart Energy ecosystem. You will work closely with the development team, whether making code changes off-site with a customer or at our clients premises, contributing to tools or production software. This role is a critical one for their customer’s perception of this company and the successful candidate will have strong inter-personal, communication and negotiation skills.

Essential Requirements:
• 1+ year experience working with smart metering, SMETS or Zigbee Smart Energy or related areas
• 2+ years software development experience in C
• A 1st or 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or demonstrably excellent technical skills and knowledge
• Willingness to travel within the UK and to build relationships with key technical stakeholders at partners and customers
• Exposure to IoT technologies and / or cloud services architectures
• Experience in OO / scripting languages for production and debug tools would be desirable
