There are some pretty scary short-cuts out there that are being taken by recruitment agencies; some a lot more worrying than others. For example, a common trend we have heard of in the recruitment sector is finding candidates on job sites and putting them forward for job roles without even speaking to the candidate.
In the recruitment consultants mind this means that they can start the process quicker, they can send over the candidates CV and if the employer likes the sound of the candidate then the recruitment consultant can contact the candidate with the good news and book them in for an interview.
It’s a win-win right?
What if the candidate didn’t put the name of their existing employer on their CV as they didn’t want them to know they were looking for a job and you put them forward for that company? This puts the candidate in a really awkward situation and makes you look like you can’t do your job to both the candidate and potential client.
You cannot put people forward for a job without speaking to them and gaining their permission to be put forward for that job role; what if you put them forward for a job and the employer loves them and invites them in for an interview, but the candidate is no longer looking for a job or doesn’t want to work for that company?
Once again you are left looking silly, the potential client is let down and chances are you’ve left a bad taste in the candidate and clients mouth and they’ll be unwilling to use you in the future.
By using candidates’ details for a job with a potential or existing client, without consulting them beforehand, you are seriously breaching the candidates confidentiality; yet when we talk to clients about this common trend in the recruitment sector, they say they know about it and presumed that all recruitment agencies worked in the same way.
This is definitely not the case; Aspire Cambridge are a recruitment agency, serious about standards, that do the best job we can for the client and candidate and would never take short-cuts. We have spent many years building up a strong reputation as a recruitment agency that can be trusted and we never want this reputation to be damaged.
The team here at Aspire Cambridge take the time to interview every candidate and gain permission from them to represent them in their job search; this is something that is completely non-negotiable to us. We are passionate about maintaining and improving standards, we are corporate members of the REC and each recruitment consultant, accredited with the IRP both of which they clearly state that a member should not present a candidate to a potential employer without clear permission from the candidate – this is a rule we have always stuck to and always will.
