Starting a new career in sales can be tricky. This is why Aspire Cambridge has put together some top tips to help you on your new journey. While nobody expects newbies to the sales world to know everything, these top insider tips for sales professionals will certainly help you get ahead in your new role;

Be A Sponge

The best thing you can do is become a sponge. Learn everything there is to know about the new industry. This should include reading relevant articles and literature, connecting with industry experts on line and listen to everything that is going on around you.

Be A Good Scout

Every good scout knows that they have to be prepared. When attending a large event or networking session do your research. Find out which people are attending, what they do and any major achievements the business has had. Then on the day approach them and start that conversation. They’ll be impressed with your knowledge, research and relevant questions.

Listen To Learn

So many people listen to answer, but instead you should listen to learn. The more someone tells you, the more you can learn about them and their needs. Respect will be gained from them to you, because you have listened to what they said. This shows really authenticity and can be hugely attractive to potential business contacts.

Be Honest

One of the best things you can do as a new sales professional is to be honest. Be honest and forthcoming about what a customer can expect from a product or service. Never over promise and ensure you are more enthusiastic and knowledgeable than the customer looking to purchase from you.

Be Magic

There are some questions that you can ask business contacts that are known as ‘magic questions’. When you get these questions right, it is like magic. The person you are talking to will give you perspective like no other and help you easily identify gaps. Magic questions are things like; what got you in the industry and why do you love / hate the industry.

Get A Mentor

Find a mentor to align with. This could be someone in the industry, a work colleague or a friend with industry experience. Learn all you can be shadowing them and absorbing everything. This will help you drastically improve your success and confidence in the role.
