Candidates across industries are utilising social media to look and apply for work.
Candidates are becoming more skilled and capable in using social media platforms to search and apply for jobs, with many utilising their platforms in an effort to showcase their portfolio to potential employers.
A recent survey by Deloitte has indicated that has many as 8 in 10 people aged 18-24 use social media to look for jobs. The 80% figure clearly reflects the knowledge that this age group has of social media and that they recognise the opportunities social media has to offer them as a job seeker.
As well as using social media, candidates are also showcasing their portfolio on websites and blogs, networking to meet people to face to face and creating their own articles – for their blog or as a blogger for a magazine website.
Finding the best candidates in a busy job market
Based on these figures, it is imperative that employers advertising their jobs use social media to attract this demographic. Not only to find a greater number of candidates but to use their social media activity as a ‘pre-screen’ of the type of person they are. With more than 50% of employers currently looking to employ staff; actively seeking candidates on social media can give you an advantage.
