Every day is exciting running the Temporary and Contract division at Aspire Cambridge; things move so fast, with new roles coming in hour by hour and I love the challenge of matching candidates and clients perfectly under intense time pressure. A happy client and candidate means a happy Laura!

I joined Aspire Cambridge in April 2014 to run the Temporary and Contract Division – a division that was always reactive to client demand however formalised due to its growth and repeat demand in November 2014. We work with a wide range of companies across East Anglia, primarily in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Suffolk and have a phenomenal network of candidates who are actively or passively seeking temporary jobs and contract jobs.

Laura LeonardWhy did I choose Temporary and Contract recruitment?

I decided to get into recruitment after many years in Account Management at companies such as Play.com and Booking.com. I was ready for a new challenge and as a people person, I knew I would love meeting and talking to a diverse range of people, developing an understanding of their motivations and goals. When I saw the opportunity to join Aspire Cambridge it was the perfect fit; making the most of my skills, working to tight deadlines and enjoying the daily satisfaction of meeting our clients’ requirements for staff, and our candidates’ employment needs.

There has been a growing demand for temporary staff in Cambridgeshire and throughout East Anglia for some time, these contracts vary in length, from a few hours, weeks or even months.

Why YOU should recruit a Temp

Hiring a Temp is a fantastic way of trialling a worker before potentially employing them permanently. Reducing the risk and rushed decisions associated with other forms of recruitment – 76% of the Temps that we place are then taken on by that company on a permanent basis. This can be in the same role or in many cases, our clients will choose to create a new position for the recruit because they made such a great impression!

Recent statistics from the REC (June 2015) reported that 97% of companies have ‘little or no’ capacity to take on more work unless they increase their staff – temporary contracts provide an excellent solution to this. 97% of companies are planning to increase or maintain their current number of agency workers between now and mid 2016, emphasising the strong demand and that the current trend is set to continue and grow.

The many benefits for clients and candidates of temporary employment include:

Benefits for clients of temporary staff …
  •  Deliver a short-term project or need for specific skills and maximise efficiency
  • Cover holidays, sickness and staff absence
  • Trial a worker before potentially employing them permanently
  • Keep headcount and costs down – only pay for the hours worked
  • Cover emergency situations at very short notice (as quickly as 4 hours)

Benefits for candidates of a temporary job role …

  • A quick solution to earn money, often within a day of registering with us
  • Flexibility of trying different roles and companies on short contracts to find what is right for you
  • Can fit in with family life, studying by working shifts
  • 65% of temps earn more than they would it they were employed on a permanent basis (REC June 2015)

What makes a superb temporary candidate?

As an industry expert and leader in temporary and contract recruitment, I can efficiently find and identify the very best candidates in a significantly fast turnaround time. A really good Temp will have a range of skills and experience in the area that they are interested in, and a real passion for what they do. I cannot stress enough the importance of a positive attitude and friendly approach – a great Temp will be reliable and punctual, fit well into any team, make a good first impression, get up to speed straight away and always be looking for more to do to make themselves as useful as possible.

At Aspire Cambridge, we have a strong brand and reputation with a very high client and candidate retention rate. We take a modern approach to communicating with our candidates and clients, using social media and email marketing, as well as more traditional techniques to build relationships with superb individuals, teams and organisations.
