Aspire Cambridge supports Soham Village college with Employability Skills event
Kayleigh and Laura from Aspire Cambridge visited Soham Village College today to support their employability skills event. Helping in a volunteering capacity, they provided their knowledge and expertise of the industry as recruitment professionals, with the aim of improving the future employability of students.
The purpose of this employability skills event is to give the students an experience of an interview, to help them develop their interviewing skills, to learn what skills and qualities employers are looking for and to help them focus their thinking about their future. – Anne Bailey, Employer Links Coordinator.
During the day, students were given the opportunity to practise their mock interview individually with Kayleigh and Laura. Afterwards, each student was given feedback on their interview, with tips on how they can improve for future interviews. As a class group, further CV and interview tips were given from Kayleigh and Laura.
Students were asked to wear smart clothes to the event, as they would to a normal interview. Furthermore, there was a careers fair for the students to meet companies and practise their approach to speaking to potential employers.
